The Essentials of Crafting a Good Cover Letter for a Sales Engineering Position?
Your cover letter should really speak to specific qualifications and/or education that you have that would interest a potential employer. Write a cover letter for each position that you apply for, in other words, don't use the same cover letter for each position. Yes, it is time consuming, but it is also more targeted and thus more effective.
The cover letter samples, just like resume samples are different depending on your level of experience.
Having said that, here is an example of a cover letter for a mid-level sales-engineering position.
Dear hiring manager,
It is with great excitement that I submit my resume for your Sales Engineering position. I possess a Bachelor of Science in Engineering coupled with 7+ years of hands-on experience in technical product sales; client relationship management; as well as a deep understanding of the scientific process.
As a meticulous problem-solver and multi-tasker, I am highly adept at working in stressful situations and connecting with key clients through effective consultative sales techniques.
In the 3rd paragraph, you should pull specific things out from the job description and tell how you meet those qualifications. (This is very important! Because then the employer knows you actually took time to read the qualifications and make sure you qualify for them. It also gives it a personal touch).
Thank you for taking the time to look over my resume. I’m sure that you will find that my qualifications are a close match to what you are looking for. I look forward to speaking to you personally to further acquaint you with my qualifications for the Sales Engineering position. Please feel free to contact me by phone or email to move forward to the next step.
